Electronic
Voice Phenomenon:This is probably one of the
most sensational areas of paranormal research. How many of you have
ben chilled by listening to an E.V.P. online or on TV? There is
something eerier sometimes in sound than in sight and this is why
E.V.P.s have been so widely collected. On the surface level it means
Electronic Voice Phenomena. Analyzing audio to search for E.V.P.
evidence can be more complex and it is very easy to be deceived.
The Human Voice:
According to Wilkipedia, the human voice can range between 300 and
3000 Hz. on the electromagnetic spectrum. Others claim the human
voice can actually span from 20 Hz to about 14,000 Hz.
Where are E.V.P.s found? This
is still a debatable question. Some paranormal researchers feel
that only the very extremely low frequencies (below human voice)
can hold verifiable E.V.P.s because it is lower than a human can
speak and therefore must be paranormal. This is debatable. Many
people have secured convincing E.V.P.s within human speech ranges.
How can I find E.V.P.s in my audio?
There are many good sound editing programs out there. One effective
and free program is Audacity. You may want to find a program that
can shift speed and pitch, as well as isolate specific frequencies
and filter out others. |

E.V.P. Clips
We would like to hear
your feedback. If you think you know something about one of these
clips please email
us putting the name of the clip in the subject. These are .mp3 files.
Depending on your system you may need to right click and save them
first.
"Did
you miss me?" Recorded at the abandoned Director's
house at Pilgrim State Hospital - this one could very well be the
voice of one of the investigators but none remembers speaking these
words. This one is at best inconclusive.
Male voice mumbling
and amplified
version were also taken at the Director's Mansion - The voice
does not match anyone present on the investigation but it was very
noisy and there i considerable noise pollution. |

Debunked
E.V.P.Clips:
As
mentioned, it is very easy to create false E.V.P. accidentally.
Causes could be excess noise or whispering during a recording.
"O-
Kay..." This clip sounded very much like other EVP's
we have heard but it turns out one of our members was whispering
to herself while setting the camera up for a shot. This is why it
is very important not to whisper or speak in very low tones on an
investigation.
Mysterious
scratching - This was one of our
early clips. It was also from Pilgrim and though we thought we knew
all the sounds of standard exploring gear (cameras, tripod, flashlights,
etc..) this one stumped us and we could find no reason or the sound.
Later on we discovered that someone had brought one of those no-battery
shake flashlights and we were thus able to identify the sounds as
the light being shaken. One good reason to know what equipment you
take with you and any possible sounds it could make. |
